Carpet Cleaning Secrets Of Professionals

Carpet Cleaning Secrets (As Used By Professionals)

The majority of people are now aware that regular professional carpet cleaning will prolong the lifespan of your carpets.

But how do you maintain the fresh appearance of your carpets for longer between professional cleaning appointments?

And how do you tackle spillages and stains without causing accidental damage to your carpet fibres?

Vacuum Regularly and Use Good Technique

Proper vacuuming technique is essential in order to remove embedded soil particles.

Always start with a clean filter to ensure strong suction.

When vacuuming, make slow and deliberate passes over the carpet, overlapping each stroke to ensure thorough coverage of the carpet fibres. Pay particular attention to high-traffic areas near entrances and around furniture where feet rest as they will tend to harbour more soil particles.

Vacuum both horizontally and vertically.

For best results, vacuum your carpets at least once a week, and more frequently if you have pets, heavy foot traffic or messy children!

Blot stains carefully

Never vigorously scrub a stain or spillage.

If you need to treat a stain or spillage, blot the affected area carefully with a clean cloth to draw out any liquid and colour, and always work from the outside-in.

Scrubbing away at a stain can cause it to spreqd and may actually cause damage to the carpet fibres.

Remove as much pet hair as possible

In order to keep on top of pet hair, it is essential to vacuum at least once or twice per week.

It is a vital part of removing dander which is responsible for many allergic symptoms.

In addition to this, a very effective way to remove pet hair is to slowly run a squeegee through the carpet fibres before vacuuming. Doing so will create clumps of hair on the surface which can then easily be vacuumed up.

Do not use shop bought stain removers

Being a professional carpet cleaning company, we see the damage that many well known brands cause on a weekly basis.

Somtimes it’s just an unsightly water stain, othertimes it can be a change to the colour of the carpet that cannot be removed by simply treating the stain.

The minimla chance of a successful stain removl is simply not worth the risk.

If you can’t get a professional to attend to a stain, just use plain cool water or a mild vinegar and water solution. (Read our stain treatment guide)

Stain protect your carpets

Applying a high quality stain protector to your carpets is a wise investment.

Doing so can prevent spillages becoming permanent stains and will make any stains easier to treat successfully.

Stain protectors also help to prevent abrasion caused by dry soils becoming embedded in carpet fibres.

If you’ve invested in good quality carpets, then contacting your local trusted professional to apply stain protection is a wise decision that can save you a lot of money in the long term.
